A polished Italian marble floor laid through a corridor, with matching skirting, timber doors and fluted wall panels. The long, narrow shape of a corridor shows up every flaw in a floor, so layout and joint quality matter more here than in any other room.
What the project involved
- Layout. Slabs were laid out in advance so the veining flows along the corridor and joints sit in line.
- Fixing. The base was levelled and the marble fixed with tight, even joints.
- Finishing. The floor was ground and polished to a level, even shine after installation.
- Details. Skirting was cut to match the floor, and the junctions with doors were made clean.
Why corridors are demanding
A corridor is one long sightline. A joint that wanders, a slab that sits slightly high, or a shade change between slabs is visible from end to end. We plan slab order, mark lines along the length and check level as we go, then finish with diamond grinding and polishing to remove any small differences between slabs.
Care
Polished marble keeps its look with neutral cleaners, quick wiping of spills and mats at entrances. A periodic polish refreshes the shine.
