Italian Diamond and Silicate Polish

Diamond grinding and silicate polish to restore and finish marble, granite and stone floors.

Italian Diamond and Silicate Polish

A stone floor does not have to be replaced to look new. Scratches, dull patches, stains and uneven joints can be removed by grinding the surface flat and then polishing it back to a consistent shine. iSquare offers Italian diamond polishing and silicate polish for marble, granite and other stone floors, both on new installations and on floors that have been in use for years.

Italian diamond polish

Diamond polishing uses a sequence of diamond abrasive pads, working from coarse to fine. The coarse stages remove scratches and level the lippage between slabs; the finer stages bring up the gloss. Water is used through the process to control dust, which is why floors look wet while the work is in progress. It suits marble, granite and many other natural stone floors.

Silicate polish

Silicate polish is a finishing treatment applied after the stone is ground and honed. It is worked into the surface to harden it and give a deep, even gloss, which helps the floor resist everyday wear and marking. We use it as the final stage when a floor needs a lasting finish, not just a quick shine.

When it is the right choice

  • New marble or granite floors that need grinding and a finished polish after installation.
  • Older floors with scratches, dull traffic paths or water stains.
  • Floors where slabs sit at slightly different heights.
  • Stairs, landings and lobbies where the finish has worn unevenly.

What to expect

We inspect the floor first and tell you what grinding and polishing can and cannot fix. Deep cracks, broken pieces or badly stained stone may need repair or replacement of individual slabs, and we say so before starting. Furniture and fittings are protected or moved, and the floor is cleaned and sealed to suit its use at the end.

Questions

What is the difference between diamond polish and silicate polish?

Diamond polishing grinds and smooths the stone in stages using diamond pads. Silicate polish is a finishing treatment applied afterwards to harden the surface and give a deep, even gloss.

Can you restore an old marble floor without replacing it?

Often yes. Scratches, dull patches and uneven joints can usually be ground out and polished. We inspect first and tell you what can be fixed.

Why is the floor wet during the work?

Water is used with the diamond pads to control dust and heat, so the floor looks wet while grinding is in progress.

Which floors can be polished?

Marble, granite and many other natural stone floors. Tiles are different and are not polished this way.
